ABOUT TELECAM PARTNERS
Telecam Partners was established in 1990 by Henson (Hans) Jones to create San Miguel County’s largest mixed-use real estate development and provide Telluride’s residents and business owners with affordable space to live and work.
Through the 1990s and early 2000s, Telecam spearheaded the development of what is now Lawson Hill, the Ilium Valley Business Park, and the Two Rivers Drive residential development areas which today support over 300 homes for local residents, more than 40 office, retail, and industrial businesses, public-use trails, and the Sheriff’s Office and county jail.
Origin Story
Hans Jones was originally approached by the Alexander family to develop their 300 acre parcel stretching from Society Turn west into Ilium Valley, and Hans saw a unique opportunity to create badly needed commercial, residential and light industrial use properties in the space-constrained Telluride Valley. The project was approved by the county in 1991, and over the subsequent eight years Telecam created the water, sewer, utility and roadway infrastructure needed to support a new set of communities in the area.
The Lawson Hill development came at a particularly critical time as local families and businesses were being forced or pressured to move out of the town of Telluride. Housing at the old Pandora mine had been slated for demolition, and light industrial businesses became more difficult to operate in the town center. Over time, Telecam sold off parcels to homeowners and small businesses which were developed independently under design supervision of the County and Telecam. In 1995 Lawson Hill received the Colorado Governor’s Smart Growth Award for proactively creating local housing, establishing it as a poster child for successful resort development and providing the largest local housing project in this area.
Once Lawson Hill was complete, Telecam turned to the western portion of the original 300 acres, and over time the Ilium Valley Business Park and the housing developments around Two Rivers Drive were created.
Other important contributions Telecam brought to the community include:
-
Establishment of a non-motorized trail and bike culvert under 145 connecting the Valley Floor Bike Path through Lawson Hill to the Galloping Goose Trail.
-
Conservation of the swath of land between Lawson Hill and Ilium along the San Miguel River and Keystone Falls which became the Keystone Gorge Loop Trail, now managed by San Miguel County Parks.
